I slowly came down the stairs, sideways, one foot at a time, gripping the railing all the way down. “So what did you do lady?” my husband asked from his comfy leather chair. “A funny thing happened on the way to dinner”, I lamented.
Yes, I had some new shoes on that were a bit HIGH! (Maybe three inches too high!) The funny thing is that the small inner voice within me told me not to wear the shoes and I promptly dismissed the warning. I was going out. I wanted to look good. I was looking forward to finding a reason to wear my “hot” new shoes and now I had one!
Even as I was walking up to the house to meet my friends, that small voice again suggested I slow down because I was going too fast. Then as I sat with my friends, sharing a glass of wine and chatting about our lives, that small voice was yanking on my senses to go home early.
And when we decided to go to dinner, that small voice was encouraging me that it was a good time to say good bye and travel home. When I attempted to put my shoes on, the right one was tight and I had too seriously push it on my foot! Hmmm… but did I listen, No!
On the way to the car, ignoring all the warnings, it happened.I stepped off the curb and a funny thing happened. It was s-l-o-w motion, I felt like I was in a time-warp – part of my body went one way and the other part went in the opposite direction.
Now, I am honoring that small voice within me! With a swollen foot and unable to balance my weight – I have plenty of time to listen. Slow down, you are moving too fast, the wise voice warned. I don’t sit very well, I am always moving, always creating and now – the “always” has been removed and NOW I am listening slowly, carefully, understanding that it is not the destination, but the journey that is important. My foot will heal, that I know for sure and I promised that “small voice within” that I will appreciate it’s wise words!
A funny thing happened on the way to dinner, a time-warp, a slow down because I was moving too fast – turn up the volume on your inner guidance. It’s wisdom is worth the time to hear!
